JOIN US !
If you are reading this and you are not already a member - why not join us ? Full rehearsal details can be found in the "Downloads" section. We would particularly welcome more male or female tenors - and have not yet had a female bass in the Society. Other voices are also welcome. We have approximately 112 subscribing members. Joining details are elsewhere on this site.
Subscriptions are pro rata from 1st September, so why not join now and enjoy the uplifting experience of fine choral singing, expert tuition and teamwork. The Society is a door to a new social life - we have had two marriages over the past 4 years!
For those with the inclination there is usually a post-rehearsal drink in The Windmill, just across the road from the Church.
DIARY DATES FOR 2010
2010 Concert Dates are: 27th March at Marlborough College Chapel (Verdi's "Requiem"); on 24th April we will be producing an informal "come and sing" concert of Handel's "Messiah" at St Mark's Church, Church Place; Summer term rehearsing and recording a new CD on 8th May and 5th June with a concert of the CD music on 12th June; 2nd October, Howard Goodall's "Eternal Light" at Holy Rood Church; and on 4th December our Christmas Concert (including excerpts of J S Bach's "Christmas Oratorio") at Christ Church.
DIARY DATES FOR 2011
We will be singing, for the first time in this Society, Beethoven's "Missa Solemnis". This in Marlborough College Chapel on Saturday, 9th April, 2011. We start rehearsing this wonderful but testing work in December 2010. More details later.
The Chorale - Engagements
Our most recent wedding engagement was at St Michael's Church, Purton on Saturday, 29th May, 2010. 21 members sang. On Halloween 2009 we sang at the Kennet Valley Hall for their community Harvest Supper and in aid of their funds. We also sang at Queen's Drive Methodist Church, Swindon on 14th November, and will be singing carols at Lydiard House, West Swindon (SN5 3PA) at 2.30pm on 13th December.
Any member of the Society is very welcome to join this happy and sociable group and at any time for any event. The only requirements are that you are willing to attend a couple of pre-event rehearsals (normally on Tuesday or Wednesday evenings)and enjoy singing in a choir of 12 to 20. In addition to weddings, we welcome members who could, at shorter notice, sing at funerals. We also give occasional small concerts for charities or fund-raising. To raise funds for the Society was why the Chorale came into being, and over the years we have probably been the most successful source of additional revenue for the Society.
